Police ranks in F Division (Interior Locations) have arrested an armed robbery suspect, who was found in possession of an illegal firearm along with matching ammunition.The illegal firearm with ammunition found in the possession of the robbery suspectThe suspect, a 35-year-old male of Industrial Area, Mackenzie, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) was arrested in Cuyuni, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) with an unlicensed .32 pistol and five matching rounds.According to the Guyana Police Force, the suspect was wanted for questioning in connection with robbery under arms.It was reported that the man was seen by the Police about 09:00h on Friday in Kumung-Kumung, Region Seven.The Police said that following his apprehension, a search was conducted on the suspect during which the firearm and ammunition were found in his possession. The man has been taken into custody, and the illegal weapon was confiscated as investigations continue.
Fort St. John youth will use their talents to keep Brazilian kids in school. The North Peace Secondary School is holding a Talent Show and Art Auction on Saturday, with all proceeds going to a school in Olinda, Brazil. – Advertisement -17 year-old Kimmie Gulevich says the idea stems from a “Me to We” conference held in September. Students from the School District 60 pledged to hold a ‘Global Event’, and focused on fundraising for kids in need. It takes $50 a day to operate the facility in Olinda, so the school could be fully-operational for two months, if the students make their goal.Tickets to the event are $5.00 each, and include access to the talent show and art auction. Doors open at 2:00 p.m. at the North Peace Secondary School.
Glencolmcille Tidytowns An application for this years tidytowns competition has been completed for Glen, the area included is from the Garda Barracks to the Folk Village. A big effort is being made to improve our TidyTowns marks. Judges are expected to visit in the first half of June. Siúloid na Muirlinne One of the biggest projects in the area at the moment is the river walk from Gannew Bridge to the Minister’s Bridge. Some funding has been made available for this project and the Parish Council hopes that work will be able to begin soon. Anyone with any ideas should contact any member of the Glencolmcille Parish Council to get involved. Table Quiz There will be a table quiz in the Glen Head Tavern on Saturday 26th May at 9.30pm to raise money for various community projects in Glencolmcille such as the TidyTowns effort, the River Walk, the upgrading of the Mart etc. Community Information Point As the Lace House on Cashel Street is currently vacant, it has been decided to set up a Community Information Point. This can be treated as a hub for all local information, and also a place where visitors can go with queries.
