YouTubeThe Jameis Winston crab legs story was one of the craziest of the year in college football, and based on a clip from ESPN’s “Draft Academy,” we may not have had the whole story after all. On the “Combine” episode of ESPN’s series, while going through interview practice with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, Winston went into detail about the crab legs incident, explaining that a Publix employee had “hooked him up” with the free food before someone else called security on him. This certainly changes the story, and seems like it could be an NCAA issue, especially if this is a common occurence. We’ll continue to update on this new development as more unfolds.
Former Liverpool star John Arne Riise says Craig Bellamy could have ended his career when he attacked him with a golf club in his hotel room in 2007.The incident happened before a Champions League game against Barcelona when the team, then managed by Rafael Benitez, travelled to the Algarve for five days to do “light training, play golf, relax in the sun and socialise”.But the turning point for Bellamy and Riise came when the players were having a meal without the coach or background staff present. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? The former left-back says some players, including Bellamy, had been drinking before the match and the forward started winding him up before they started eating.”Pretty soon a microphone appeared on the table and Bellamy bellowed into it: ‘Riise’s gonna sing! Riise’s gonna sing!’ He started before the food was served and continued while we ate,” Riise wrote in his autobiography, Running Man. “He was already quite drunk and I was already quite annoyed.”Pretty soon Bellamy was over by the karaoke machine with the microphone in the hand: ‘Riise’s gonna sing! Riise’s gonna sing!’“Furious, I went over to him: ‘I’m not singing. Shut the f*ck up or else I’m gonna smash you!’ He screamed back: ‘I’m gonna f*cking kill you, you ginger c***!’”Bellamy shut up, and I left with Sami Hyypiä – who was just getting a little tipsy – and got a taxi back to the hotel. Agger hadn’t wanted to leave yet, so I promised to leave the door unlocked. Back in the room I fell asleep almost immediately. It was no later than half twelve.“I woke in the dark to hear someone opening the door. Obviously I thought it was Agger. I turned, but my eyes were half-asleep, and I didn’t see anything in the sudden, bright glare. But something made me realise that it wasn’t Agger. And soon I could see him – Craig Bellamy at the foot of my bed with a golf club in his hands.”Steve Finnan, who shared a room with Bellamy, was there too, but he just stood there. Bellamy raised the club over his head and swung as hard as he could. He tried to hit my shins, which would have ended my career, but I managed to pull my leg away in time.”I jumped out of bed, pulled off the sheet and held it between us like I was some kind of half-awake matador. Bellamy sputtered: ‘Nobody disrespects me like that in front of the lads!’ He was completely gone.“I don’t care if I go to jail! My kids have enough money for school and everything. I don’t care. I’ll f*cking do you!” He raised the club and swung again. This time he connected. Full force on my hip. I was so pumped with adrenaline that I didn’t feel the pain, but he hit me hard. It was an iron.”The next blow smashed into my thigh. I tried to hold up the sheet, but he continued to strike. He could seriously injure me. At the same time, I knew I could take Bellamy if I needed to. I was bigger and stronger.”The ex-Norway international says he tried to calm his aggressor instead of retaliating as he feared it would end his Liverpool career. Although Bellamy scheduled a rematch with him, the incident did not go any further.”I tried to calm him down: ‘Put down the club and let’s fight with our fists. Come on! A proper fight!’ He just stood and glowered at me,” Riise wrote. “Then he said: ‘Tomorrow at nine o’clock we’ll meet and finish this.’ Then he left.“A lot of things had happened that night; I didn’t know about most of it because I’d gone to bed early, but when I looked out the window to see what all the racket was about I saw the flashing lights of a police car and our keeper, Jerzy Dudek, being bundled into the back in handcuffs. He was singing and pounding on the roof of the car.”The defender was shocked by some of his team-mates’ reactions the following day as they laughed at the incident, while Bellamy stayed quiet.“The lads sat there, laughing amongst themselves,” he added. “After a while Bellamy showed up. He didn’t even glance at me. He grabbed some food and sat down. Not a sound.“The sniggering continued at the training session. I didn’t like that they just laughed about it. One of our team-mates had attacked me and could have ended my career. Why did nobody challenge him about it? But they must have thought that this was a private matter between Bellamy and me.“I felt like knocking him out. I would have been justified in giving him a pounding but I had too much respect for Benítez and the team.”While Bellamy ended up with an £80,000 fine and was forced to apologise, he went on to mock the defender when he celebrated his goal against Barcelona and then set Riise up for the winning goal.“He celebrated by running towards the corner flag, where he stopped and made a swinging motion, like he was holding a golf club,” he said. “I thought it was f*cking disrespectful. The celebration also revealed the sincerity of his apology.”He added: “What Bellamy and myself proved was that we had the ability to use adversity to succeed. We handled the pressure and distinguished ourselves in one of the biggest matches you can play. But we could never be friends.“My decision in the hotel room was sensible. I mean, the two of us were dads. But the feeling has stuck with me. I should have stood up for myself. Gerrard once said to me: ‘If I’d been in your shoes, I don’t think I would have managed’.” Subscribe to Goal’s Liverpool Correspondent Neil Jones’ weekly email bringing you the best Liverpool FC writing from around the web
Manchester City have included a Manchester United-related sell-on clause in Brahim Diaz’s Real Madrid transfer, Goal has learned.Brahim, 18, is poised to move to Santiago Bernabeu in a deal worth an initial £15.5 million ($19m), plus £6.5m in add-ons.City have also agreed a clause with Madrid that entitles them to 15 per cent of any future transfer fee, should the forward sign for another club in the future. But not every club.City have also included an agreement whereby they would receive 40% of any future transfer fee… if Brahim were to join Manchester United.Brahim joined City from Malaga as a 14-year-old and was regarded as one of the club’s academy graduates with the best prospects of making an impact in the first-team.There is no buy-back clause included in his transfer, but the Blues have ensured they will benefit in some way if the winger goes on to seal a big-money transfer elsewhere. The Spanish forward would have been out of contract at the Etihad Stadium in the summer, and refused to commit to a new deal with the Premier League club because he did not believe he would get enough first-team opportunities in the coming years.City made a number of big offers in a bid to retain Brahim’s services, but were unable to convince him that he will play more in first-team football than he will in Madrid.Despite the Blues’ failure to persuade one of their highest-rated youngsters to stay, they are understood to be happy with the terms of the transfer, and believe many of the additional add-ons, which would take the overall value of the deal above £20m, are achievable.City will receive more money once Brahim plays a certain amount of games for Madrid, plus an extra instalment if he signs a new contract in the Spanish capital.Madrid have promised Brahim that he will be part of their first-team plans for the rest of the season, and he could make his debut in the Copa del Rey clash with Leganes next Wednesday.Brahim’s contribution will be assessed in the summer and a decision will then be made over whether he is sent out on loan or kept in the squad for next season.Goal revealed on Friday that Brahim’s advisors weighed up the possible impact of Jose Mourinho taking over at the Bernabeu before signing off on the deal.Sources close to the player do not believe that Mourinho is likely to replace Santi Solari at the end of the season, however, and a final agreement with the Champions League holders was reached at the end of 2018.
Lazio head coach Simone Inzaghi says that while he wants Manchester United target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to stay, they must take offers into consideration. The Serbia international midfielder has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since last summer, and reports suggest a deal between United and Lazio is near to completion.Inzaghi would like to see the 24-year-old remain in the ranks at the Stadio Olimpico, but with a fee of £90 million ($111m) mooted he knows his club may have to cash in. I can give him advice, he is at our disposal and hasn’t missed a training session, but then I don’t know what will happen.“I hope he stays.”This is the second summer of speculation regarding the Serb’s potential transfer to the Premier League giants.Last summer Milinkovic-Savic was thought to be on the verge of a move, only for it to fall through at the final hurdle and Lazio president Claudio Lotito has said it would be more difficult to keep the player this summer. His current head coach is under no illusions about the issue of finding a replacement for Milinkovic-Savic, who has 22 goals in 125 Lazio appearances.“We know that if he was to leave, we’d have some important shoes to fill,” Inzaghi added.“I hope he remains, he had a great pre-season training camp, but the market is open, and we are ready for any situation.“If he were to leave, we’d need a physical player to come in the midfield. Purchases are targeted and chosen together with the club, we have sat down and talked calmly.“If an important offer arrives, it is only right the club take it into consideration.”If Milinkovic-Savic does arrive in Manchester it might pave the way for Paul Pogba to head for the exit door. The two players share a similar playing style and Pogba has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and is reportedly agitating for the transfer to go through.
Real Madrid forward Rodrygo is set for up to three weeks on the sidelines after it was confirmed he has suffered a hamstring injury. The 18-year-old completed his protracted move to Santiago Bernabeu from Santos this summer, and it was hoped – at least by supporters – that he would be able to make an impact in the first team this season.Rodrygo has featured throughout pre-season for Zinedine Zidane’s side, but will now miss the start of the new La Liga campaign as he nurses his way back to full fitness. Indian team set to tour Pakistan for Davis Cup in SeptemberIndia’s cricket team has not toured Pakistan since 2007 and bilateral cricketing ties between them have remained suspended since 2008.advertisement Indo-Asian News Service New DelhiJuly 29, 2019UPDATED: August 8, 2019 12:46 IST Reuters PhotoAn Indian team will travel to Pakistan for a Davis Cup tie in September, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) has said, despite strained relations between the nations. The nuclear-armed neighbours have gone to war three times since independence in the mid-20th century and another conflict nearly erupted earlier this year, giving an even spicier-than-usual geopolitical backdrop to sporting rivalries.India’s cricket team has not toured Pakistan since 2007 and bilateral cricketing ties between them have remained suspended since 2008.Relations further soured in February this year after a suicide car bombing killed at least 40 Indian paramilitary police in Kashmir putting question marks on the Asia/Oceania Group 1 tie, which will be held on Sept. 14-15 in Islamabad.”It’s not a bilateral series, it’s the World Cup of tennis. So no government clearance was required,” AITA Secretary General Hironmoy Chatterjee told Reuters.”We needed an invitation from the Pakistan Tennis Federation for the visa process which we have received. We are applying for the visas soon as it’s a lengthy process.”An Indian tennis team last toured Pakistan in 1964 for Davis Cup when they defeated the hosts 4-0 while Pakistan lost 3-2 in their last visit in 2006 in Mumbai.Until a few years back Pakistan was forced to host its home Davis Cup ties at neutral venues as teams refused to travel due to security concerns.Chatterjee said the International Tennis Federation has put in place stringent security requirements to host Davis Cup ties and India’s players are looking forward to winning the tie and progress to the World Group qualifier.advertisement”The security arrangements are ensured by the ITF. Their officials will be present during the tie,” Chatterjee added.”We have not made any special security demands.”For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Here are the top four sites you need to visit while you’re in Honolulu that go beyond your cozy resort.Hanauma BayJust east of Honolulu, you’ll find a spot that looks more like a place of fantasy. Hanauma Bay is a nature preserve that is home to dozens of protected ocean species, and more importantly, a tropical beach. Not only can you take a dip in its rich blue water, but you can snorkel and view some of the native fish and coral reefs for an up-close look at Hawaii’s beauty.Diamond HeadIf you’re feeling more adventurous, you may want to consider a hike up Diamond Head, the most notable mountain in the Honolulu area. There are open hiking trails up the mountain for those who want the best view of the city, operated by Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources. You can also explore Diamond Head’s crater, which was formed 300,000 years ago. Now, an abundance of new vegetation and birds have made the crater their home.Doris’ Duke’s Shangri-LaAny visitor looking to truly immerse him or herself in a unique cultural experience will want to stop by this gem, located in Honolulu. The Shangri-La is a Center for Islamic Arts and Culture, originally created by Doris Duke. Today, it houses her Middle Eastern art collection on a cliff-side with breathtaking views of Waikiki.Ka’ena Point State ParkIf you’re looking for another location to get in touch with the outdoors (perhaps without snorkeling), you may want to consider visiting Ka’ena Point State Park. This park, nestled along a shoreline formed by lava, is home to stellar ocean views. The ancient Hawaiians used to consider the area sacred, and one look at its beauty will show you why.Of course, there are other ways to find those “off the beaten path” gems of Honolulu. One of the easiest ways to do so on your own is to take a tour bus (as cheesy as it may sound). The operators are typically extremely knowledgeable on the Islands, and you’ll get to see more than just the perimeter of your resort. The Double-Decker Bus Tours from Polynesian Adventure Tours, for instance, has a trip that will take you through Downtown Honolulu and Pearl Harbor. How to Make a Rum Old Fashioned The Best Whiskey for Whipping Up a Whiskey Sour Editors’ Recommendations The Best Bottles of Whiskey You Can Buy For $20 or Less Whiskey is fickle. Sometimes it makes you feel relaxed and in control, other times it gives you an excruciating headache. Sometimes whiskey sticks around in your liquor cabinet for years, and other times it leaves you — as American whiskey brand I.W. Harper did when they ceased U.S. production in the 1990s.After more than 20 years abroad, I.W. Harper is back and asking our forgiveness. Will we give it? Hell yes we will. That’s the thing about good whiskey — you can’t stay mad at it for long.I.W. Harper’s roots go back to 1867, when Isaac Wolfe (I.W.) Bernheim left Germany and arrived in the U.S. with just four dollars in his pocket. Within a few years, he and his brother Bernard had started distilling their fine Kentucky whiskey and were racking up the awards — including a Gold Medal at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The Bernheim Brothers continued to thrive, even through Prohibition. Though the manufacture and sale of alcohol was illegal between 1920 and 1933, the government allowed the brothers to continue whiskey production for medicinal reasons *wink*. The I.W. Harper bourbon wasn’t one of the medicinal whiskeys, but the brand endured anyway. Go figure.Related: Drink More Whiskey: Everything You Need to KnowIndeed, I.W. Harper emerged from Prohibition like a resplendent, golden phoenix. People were spellbound by the bourbon’s delicious taste and the classy ceramic decanter (pictured). I.W. Harper was even mentioned by name in the James Bond novel On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. With Spectre hitting theaters on November 6, we can’t think of a better time to revisit this worldly spirit. In the 1990s, the winds of opportunity blew east, and I.W. Harper set up shop in Asia to take advantage of the huge market’s growing taste for whiskey. For the next 20 years, the American whiskey was only available overseas. Disappointing, perhaps, but what’s more American than leaping on lucrative business opportunities? The important thing is that I.W. Harper is back, and we’re willing to accept them with open arms and mouths. They are, after all, offering two tasty whiskeys — Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (about $35), which has notes of vanilla; and 15-Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (about $75), which boasts hints of caramel and dried fruit. If you’ve ever wondered what redemption tastes like, try a glass of I.W. Harper neat. You might also try it in the Old Fashioned recipe below; in fact, I.W. Harper might just be the best possible bourbon to use for this classy standby.Old FashionedIngredients:1.3 oz. I.W. Editors’ Recommendations Winter is upon us. For those of us that worship at the altar of the Snow Gods, this in-between seasons time is one of anticipation as we carefully watch weather forecasts, tune skis, and update gear. Every snow flurry brings hope that opening day at our favorite ski resorts will be that much closer. This year, we’ve carefully researched the best gear, found new trends in the industry, and discovered what will become favorite innovations. Stay tuned as we unroll our Ski Season Preview. The last few ski seasons have seen an explosion in backcountry skiing. From early morning tours up the local resort after dropping kids off at school, to multiday excursions into serious mountain terrain, skiing uphill is changing the way many skiers view the mountain. At the forefront of the backcountry movement is the push for lighter gear to take advantage of both the uphill travel, and downhill powder turns. No company we’ve seen is doing this better than Utah based DPS Skis.Related: Ski Season Preview: Salomon MTN | Video Round Up: Ski Season EditionNew for this year, the Tour1 construction builds on DPS’s carbon fiber manufacturing knowledge to bring a ski to the market for the serious mountain athlete. Their proprietary carbon laminate, combined with an ultra responsive balsa wood core makes this ski nearly forty percent lighter than similar skis for resort use. Additionally, the carbon is much more rigid than other lightweight materials, making DPS Skis built with Tour1 methods much more responsive in all snow conditions than typical ski mountaineering and touring boards. We were able to preview some of the production models for some spring peak bagging in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains earlier this year, and were thoroughly impressed. The Tour1 models retain the edge control and steerability of a much heavier ski, but fly up the mountain while on the skin track. This season the Tour1 construction is available on the Cassiar 95, Wailer 99, and Wailer 112 RP (arguably our favorite ski ever tested). If you’re going to be spending a significant amount of time on the out of bounds hunt for pow this season, there isn’t any other choice than a pair of DPS TOur1 Skis.As an added bonus this year, DPS has launched a second season of their cinematic series, The Shadow Campaign.
